branewurms: (Mononoke - hither hither)
\o/ Two awesome sketch commissions! I gave [livejournal.com profile] cerine and [livejournal.com profile] catatonic_cats the exact same commission to see what each came up with. For guidelines I only told them that the character was a woman who was part baku and a dream thief, and that she was somewhat androgynous and had something strange going on with one eye.

ilu guys, you are so awesomely talented *o*

Oh, that reminds me! I meant to link to this AGES and AGES ago. Remember how I was hollering for someone to write lady crime boss and lady ninja butler? Well, [livejournal.com profile] catatonic_cats drew it! GO LOOK SERIOUSLY OGOD DROOL. LEGS. CRAVATS. GUNS. TEA.

Chaaanging track back to the baku, I was googling for old pictures of baku for inspiration, and came across the art of Stefan Eck. If you put the art of Mononoke, Picasso, and Hieronymus Bosch in a blender and set it to puree you might get something like this guy's work.

Awesome, innit? Actually, his color palate - and the eyes! the multitudinous eyes! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE - are unnervingly reminiscent of Mononoke. If there had been an arc about a baku, it'd have probably looked a lot like that...

...

Aaaand changing track completely this time, can you guys recommend me some "spooky" music? Preferably instrumental, but vocals are okay if they're not in English. (I want it for playing while writing, and if I can understand what's being sung it distracts me, since I start paying attention to the lyrics instead of what I'm writing.) Also preferably not poppish, but some pop might work, idk.

For examples of what I mean by "spooky": the Mononoke and Ayakashi OSTs, the City of Lost Children OST, the Mushishi OSTs, scattered Yuki Kajiura tracks like Petite Cossette's "Moonflower" and Pandora Hearts' "Melody", and Badawi's album The Heretic of Ether. (Also, I love that Mayumi Kojima track they used as the OP to Ghost Hound, "Poltergeist" - I'm usually not big on jazz, but apparently if you combine it with ~spooky~ and a catchy beat, I'm all for it.)
