It's not just a manga thing, either. I have horror stories from my years of reading romance novels.
What I can't understand is WHY girls would apparently desire a bully of that caliber?
Maybe. . . if he's on your side, your safe? His jerkish behaviour is on your behalf? I don't know.
I doesn't help that things move so fast in Hanadan. Domyouji puts Makino through *hell.* I don't think a good woobie face and a few noble actions are enough to make up for everything he did. Things might be different in the manga, but I don't think that what he did was ever really addressed.
I think setting Makino up for a gang rape deserves an apology at the very least. One thing I liked about the Kdrama: Jun Pyo told the guys to shake up Jandi, but he had no idea that they were going to try to rape her, and was visibly upset when he found out about it. Still, he never apologized to *her.*

I'm glad that you enjoyed Love Shuffle. It had a few headdesk moments of it's own, but it was awesome overall.
I was impressed by how the Kiku-rin's sexuality was handled. I was afraid that he was going to be a Secret! Gay! Villain! and was so *relieved* when he wasn't.
Ojiro/Kairi was the biggest surprise of the series, I think. I love how *she* took charge of their relationship, and didn't passively accept Ojiro's advances.
The Twitter drama is supposed to have a similar feel to Love Shuffle; I haven't seen it yet, but you may want to keep your eyes open for it.
