I AM ALIVE

SHOCKINGLY

Just unable to do much other than read and sleep, but you know, that's better than last year after Xmas, at which point I was unable to do anything but sleep. And unable to read a damn thing until, like, March or something. Which would have been really bad since, well, I got a Kindle.

BUT HAY GAIS, GAIS, I GOTS A KINDLE. AWESOME AMIRITE. How the hell does this thing even sort? I switched a collection to sort by author and it just sort of. Shuffled them. Randomly.

(Incidentally, I searched for KJ Bishop in the Kindle store and it gave me the King James Bible. IT THINKS IT'S A COMEDIAN what is this)

I have also watched all of Lie to Me, and despite it pissing me the hell off on occasion, I'm finding it PROFOUNDLY addictive. I blame Tim Roth. Why. Why is Tim Roth?

(...I sort of screamed a little at the beginning of the porno episode.)

You know what I miss? ANIME. Nothing's been coming out lately that I've been overly interested in. Gdi, that new thing coming out from the producers of Mononoke better be awesome. I was kind of underwhelmed by the psychiatrist show.

Oh, also, I have missed quite a lot of fpage/reading page posts, so if anything terribly important happened, do tell!

Ha! I would totally loan you books if, you know, most of the publishers hadn't blocked that feature. On the other hand, I can email you books if you like!

Well, I can email you the books if you give me your Kindle addy but that results in a 15 cent charge. If you don't mind that, cool. If you do, I can just email you books the normal way and you can sideload them onto your Kindle.

It just seriously annoys me! It's just like borrowing from a library or giving a book to a friend to borrow! If I loan a book to someone, they have 14 days to read it and while the book is on loan, I can't read it! How is that even remotely stealing?!

I DON'T KNOW. I can't understand why, no matter what the business, the people in charge never seem the least bit willing or capable of changing with the times! It's not good for business! THINGS CANNOT AND WILL NOT STAY THE SAME, PEOPLE.

Hello, hello! Kindle does indeed look shiny (though King James Bible, aaaahahaha omg); I'd be interested to hear how you find it!

Also, I think I might have a few pdfs somewhere. Not a lot, and I'm pretty sure it's just GGKay and Neil Gaiman's Graveyard Book, but if you'd like them & they will load on Kindle, I can email them to you?

So far I like it very much although there are a few little things I find baffling (like the bit with the inexplicable sorting of documents, and the fact that the side page controls seem like they should be reversed on the left, but they aren't, so I keep hitting the wrong buttons...).

I've got the Graveyard Book and I'm not too into GGKay, but if you've got anything else, sure! Either way, thanks for the offer.

PDFs load on the Kindle but they don't display too well unless they're actually made with an ereader's dimensions in mind. But with a program like Calibre you can change them into a format that works better (although it took a while of screwing around until I found something that actually works - I finally just settled on the mobi format, although that produces some... weirdnesses, too).

Yeah, mobi's the format the Kindle uses, if you're not using their proprietary format. (Which is basically encrypted mobi.)

Oh! Also it can read html (so you can save fanfic or free fiction from online and load it on there), but inexplicably you have to change the extension from .html to .txt. I have no idea why, as it reads the file as html, but there you are.

The only upcoming anime I'm interested in is Hourou Musuko. Yay for happy trans kids!

I'm also interested in that one, but I'm pretty sure I won't make it through all that many episodes b/c I can never get into slow, languid things. (Unless they're sff genre and a bit creepy, like Mushishi.) SHORT ATTENTION SPAN CENTRAL. I had the same problem with Aoi Hana.
