PLS
My mother is literally begging me to let her take me to one of those Dr. Amen clinics. How do I convince her that this man is a quack and she would better spend that money on REAL medical care? I need really super-respectable sources saying he is a quack, and why. She will not listen to my observations.
(Despite always saying how smart I am, my opinions are automatically uninformed silly notions until I have doctors or otherwise "respectable" people to back me up. Especially if Oprah disagrees with me. Jfc you would think Oprah was a prophet and her word the word of God. This is a woman who seriously thinks "Dr. Oz wouldn't appear with a man he thought was a quack!" is a legitimate defense.)
All I'm able to find thus far is links to things like news articles and blog articles where the author is making the same arguments as I am. I need weightier things. Medical journals, psychiatrists and neuroscientists, that kind of thing.

Maybe this? I got this off of a link from that guy's wikipedia page.
Lets forgo the desire for traditional health care for a minute and think logically about this. Psychiatrists are the only medical professionals that don't actually look at the organ they are treating. Cardiologists take a chest x-ray, EKG, ECG, heart cath, blood work, etc. Orthopedics do x-rays, scopes, MRIs, CAT scans, etc. and so on. Why when it comes to psychiatry we accept that Psychiatrists just shove medicines at us without actually looking to see what's wrong with the brain???
The brain is THE most complex organ in the body and we haven't even begun to understand it's potential. I work at a psych hospital and I'm a mental health professional. I see patient after patient come through the hospital and not one gets a CAT scan, MRI, PET scan or anything. It's just "here, lets try this medication and cross our fingers and hope it works".
It's madness. Dr. Amen offers REAL hope and REAL options for people who have tried the traditional approach to mental health.
Your blog post smacks of desperation and I would venture a guess that you are simply looking for an excuse so that you don't have to take your mom to get the help she needs. If so you are pathetic. Open your mind and get a life. I would encourage you to actually read some of Dr. Amen's work and get to know the success stories that have come from his treatments. If you cared for your mom, which I suspect that you really don't, then why wouldn't you be willing to give it a try???
