look closely at all make-for-fun raisinlions

Hi! You may know me as [livejournal.com profile] woodburner. Or hey, you may not. Anyway, this is a mostly open journal - subscribe/unsubscribe at will, no need to ask permission. :)
branewurms: (Tokyo Dogs - FFFFFFFFFF)
In light of LJ's latest fuck-up (i.e., the one where they completely undermined ALL the privacy, being that people can now crosspost their comments to your LOCKED posts to their facebooks and twitters,) I thought I would note that I would appreciate it if none of you crossposted any of your comments to my entries. Of course, it goes without saying that I don't want anyone crossposting their comments to my occasional locked posts; most of my journal is open, however, and while linking to my posts and quoting your own words elsewhere is obviously okay, I do not want my fannish activities on the stupid-ass facesbooks, so kindly don't spread it there for me.

What I don't understand is why anyone thought that this would be a good idea. I mean, did nobody stop and say, "hold up guys, won't this lead to massive breaches of privacy? Aren't our users going to complain about that?" NOBODY???

And this isn't even touching on the fact that I can no longer tab+enter to post a comment. Oh my GOD you guys, this is so annoying I can't even. If I slip and do it on instinct, I end up on my account settings, and when I backspace, my comment field is wiped. :E I also hear that having the boxes above the post button like that is causing accessibility issues for people with various disabilities.

ETA: Oh my god, LJ. The pingback feature also can post text from locked posts.

Anyway, since a lot of people are irritated (again) I thought I'd offer up some DW invite codes, since I've got a bunch. Can I just post them here and you guys use them at will? Does that like, work? Well, if it doesn't, just comment with your email address and I'll send you an invite. If it does, it'd be nice if you dropped a comment letting me know which code you took so I can cross it off, but it's not imperative or anything.

I ain't dead! Just... sick. And as I am a crazy cat-lady without the cats, going out for three birthdays in the space of a week (my own, Dave's sister's, and my Dad's,) would be enough socializing to overwhelm me a bit when healthy. Not that I'm ever really healthy, but in the middle of the week my ears got stopped up and I was too dizzy to walk without reeling around, and then by the weekend, about the time that was clearing up, I started having another one of those weird attacks in my stomach that started all this months-long stomach ailment in the first place, so, yeah. Retreat-into-shell mode!

Interesting note: One of Dave's sisters shares my name (albeit spelled slightly differently), and Dave's other sister has a new boyfriend named Dave. Creepy zone!

...

By the way, guys, decided to leave the [community profile] porn_tree challenge open a bit longer, until the 15th. Last chance to get in prompts or fics!

...

UNRELATED TO ANYTHING, I have a question! Some of you guys who also crosspost from DW to LJ have these little "x comments on dreamwidth" thingies at the bottom of your posts. How do you get that? n/m, figured it out. Although now that I need to fiddle with the code until it suits me, my crossposts aren't showing up on LJ and the LJ in general is moving like a snail. Seriously, why am I still throwing money at them?

And on the subject of Dreamwidth, I apparently have 6 invite codes. Comment with your email if you want one!

eta: Crossposting apparently working again, and unexpectedly it would seem that if you edit a past post it sticks the footer on there... Neat!

Two questions for you, my kind and patient readers, because I'm not all that familiar with DW yet and how to find out if issues have already been talked about. I wouldn't want to ask about/suggest these things in the suggestions comm if they've already been addressed. (Or if that would be the wrong place to bring them up? I don't know! D:)

1) It appears that the nifty ability to use google analytics with one's DW journal doesn't work with communities. I'd find it more useful for comms than for personal journals. Anyone know if the issue of why it's not available for comms has been addressed or how I could find out if it's been addressed?

2)Sticky posts! What! It seems that the DW-specific layouts don't have built-in sticky posts! I wanted to put a sticky post on my fic journal, and since it's a comm, I can't just backdate the entry and set it in the future to make it stick at the top! Anyone know if the issue has been addressed or how I could find out if it's been addressed?

so tireeeeed, ugh.

I guess there's no way I can go to Animazement. There's the money issue, but more importantly, I'm still not really well. ;_____; I wanted to go hang out with internet peoples.

Ugh, I am so tired of being sick you have no idea.

Anyway, I'm setting up [community profile] liminalhorizons as a fic journal for both fanfic and original fic. I made it a comm, so maybe I'll actually use it this time. I'm not quite finished setting it up (still have the rest of the backlog to import and the profile to fill out) but the layout is done. (Tweaked from this one.) The idea was to make it simple so it'll be easy to switch out colors and the header when I get sick of looking at it. It should look like this -

Confirm? Anything broken for anyone? I'm feeling really paranoid because I swear, almost every DW-specific layout I tried from [community profile] dreamwidthlayouts broke on me. And nobody in the comments ever seemed to be having my problems! :Oa

Item the 1st: Does anyone know if someone has created Flexible Squares porting instructions, by any chance? I was thinking of putting all my fic into a DW comm but obsessive-compulsive need for it to look nice, etc., and I have this layout I'd like to use but it's for Flexible Squares. Problem solved thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sleepfighter! \o/ Here is a nice repository made for Inksome, which apparently also work for DW, for the interested. (And the solution for the reading page username problem, if you haven't seen it.)

Item the 2nd: I have registered [livejournal.com profile] small_fandoms as a username on DW, just in case. Is there any point in running the same comm on DW or is there not enough activity on DW yet to support it? (This is only me thinking thinky thoughts for the moment, mind, I'm probably not going to do anything with it for a while yet.)

Item the 3rd: On the subject of [livejournal.com profile] small_fandoms, I never did figure out what to do re: some kind of featured fandom thing. Argh.

Item the 4th: Hypothetically speaking - this is PURELY HYPOTHETICAL, you understand - if one were to write cheesy vampire AU porn for Raven/Oz-Jack-hybrid, what would the not!Oz-Jack-hybrid be? (I mean, a giant woobie like not!Raven is obviously going to be the vampire, here.) I am vaguely thinking that there is something strange!!! about Oz-Jack, and he has been the victim of cruel scientific experiments!!! but I can't imagine what it could be.

Yey it is no longer fugly

I has a DW layout! Got it (and the Mixit porting instructions) from [livejournal.com profile] thefulcrum. (I made the header image of course, though it's really just a slapdash thing so the box wouldn't be empty.)

Still not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but I guess I'll start crossposting and see how that goes.

eta: I just noticed a slight... problem... ahaha, uh, on the reading page people's usernames don't show! I DON'T KNOW WHO IS POSTING WHAT. I must figure out how to get them to show up!

eta #2: Figured out that problem thanks to [livejournal.com profile] alankria but does anyone know why the names are black? Judging from the code they should be the same color as the links, but instead they're a garish black...

eta #3: replaced banner with art from [livejournal.com profile] catatonic_cats! \o/
